    Warning-Watch your feet!
PLEASE BE AWARE to check that the mounting screws for the rubber feet are screwed in deep enough to avoid marking your benchtop when you slide into position. A 2mm allen is required.

    Cleaning the body
Never use abrasive pads to clean any external part of the machine as this will scratch the stainless steel. Wipe down with a wet cloth and then Windex and rub with dry cloth.

    Cleaning the steam tip
To remove dried milk from the steam tip fill a glass with water and swivel steam wand down to insert tip into glass when sitting on the drip tray.

    Cleaning the portafilter
Clean your portafilter/s under a running tap. Occassionally remove filters and use steel wool to clean coffee from inside cup.

    To Backflush or Not
Backflushing is a process used by commercial machine owners to clean the internal plumbing with chemical powder. Although some serious home owners feel the need to perform this process often, we are of the opinion that the typical low home use doesn't warrant backflushing until the machine is at least a year old. Contact us when you are ready to perform this process as it is essential to flush your machine thoroughly.

    Machine is not heating up
Check water level. If water is insufficient in watertank the machine will shutdown. Also check watertank connection wire is attached to watertank if you have recently removed.

    Adjusting the thermostat
You may feel the need to adjust the boiler thermostat if the machine is settling in the high range of the green working area seen on the pressure gauge. Adjustment either way will impact on the default temperature setting of the boiler. Adjustment can be made with the thermostat seen on the top of the boiler. To access the inside of the machine remove the top cover, then the water tank and watertank connection wire. Adjust the screw with small movements and then assess the change.

An important tip on using the Giotto.
Whenever operating the machine always ensure that the connections for the watertank probes are positioned correctly in the watertank.

    .
Steaming milk is easy and mess free if you follow some simple rules.

    Use a 1000ml jug.
Fill to 1/3 or 1/2 full.

As shown above - position the tip of the jug just under the surface of the milk. Turn the steam on full. The wand will do all the work! Even if you don't move the jug at all, the milk will heat and froth itself. Use your hand on the SIDE of the jug to observe temperature. When you feel the temp getting too hot to keep your hand on the side you have reached a suitable temp. Any more steaming will boil the milk-not good.

Always keep the tip in the liquid volume and not in the froth as bubbling will occur. As the milk expands drop the jug gradually so the tip is always just under the liquid surface.

Don't jiggle the jug up and down.

You'll be surprised how easy it is and how much cleaner your machine will be.

    Emptying the boiler of water

If transporting or storing your Giotto remove the water from the boiler by heating to operating temperature and then switching OFF at the main power and opening the hot water tap to drain water from the boiler into a jug.

To replace the gasket on a Giotto

    Remove the drip tray

Squat down and look at the underside of the coffee group. You will see a shower filter and black rubber gasket. The gasket holds the filter in the group through compression.

With a 30mm long flat screw driver lever the grouphead shower out of the group by levering against the inside wall of the group and the outside of the shower. The shower filter and gasket will drop out with a concerted effort.

Separate the filter from the gasket. If the filter shower is covered in old coffee soak overnight in a jug of café chem. Mix a tablespoon of café chem with very hot water. The filter will clean to a new state.

To re-instate the filter and new gasket. Insert the shower into the new gasket ensuring the flat side of the gasket is facing down.

Now take the portafilter (coffee handle from your coffee machine) and remove the coffee filter. Place the gasket and shower set in the portafilter and load into the group by applying upward pressure and turning, as if loading into the machine normally. Turn the portafilter around so it goes beyond the right angle position.

Now remove the portafilter. The filter and gasket should be in place for normal operation.

Now replace the filter in your portafilter and trial the machine.
